ANCHORAGE – Yesterday, Governor Mike Dunleavy (R – Alaska) signed SB 230 in law. The Bill by Senator George Rauscher (R – Sutton) corrects the boundaries of the Jonesville Public Use Area.

Previously in 2018, the Legislature passed a bill establishing the Jonesville PUA. While the Department of Natural Resources was establishing the boundaries and drafting regulations for the area, a discrepancy in the land description was identified.

Senate Bill 230 utilizes language provided by the Department of Natural Resources to ensure the statute accurately reflects the area boundaries originally proposed by the Legislature.

“I am grateful to my legislative colleagues, the Department of Natural Resources, and our Governor for working with me through this process to make the Jonesville PUA whole,” Senator Rauscher said. The Resources Committee member continued, “The regulatory process can now be completed so the Jonesville area can be managed safely to the benefit of recreationalists, wildlife, and those who call the surrounding areas home.”

Moving forward, the Department of Natural Resources will now be able to complete the regulatory process, protecting wildlife, recreational activity, and improving public safety for the Jonesville PUA.

Senator Rauscher and the whole of the Senate Republican Caucus are pleased to work with the Executive Branch and our colleagues within the Legislature to pass bills that benefit Alaskans and promote the safe usage of our public lands.
